Street Outreach Specialist Job Posting

REQUIREMENTS:
A high school diploma, two years experience in RHY programs and completion of all required training. Senior Outreach Specialists are expected to be able to relate well to both their peers and adults and present a positive and mature mage within the community. A valid driver's license is required.

SUPERVISED BY: Executive Director and Director of Clinical Services, Program Director, Street Outreach Coordinator

SUPERVISES: Street Outreach Volunteers

RESPONSIBILITIES-CLINICAL:

  • Be Able to assertively advocate with survivors (and potential perpetrators) of violence and crime
  • Maintain an ability to engage and encourage youth away from patterns of substance abuse, poor hygiene, malnutrition, unprotected survival sex and homelessness
  • Interpersonal skills and the ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams, and other units of the organization
  • Ability to develop innovative resources to address the need of the clients
  • Learn all of FYI's policies and procedures
  • Be able to work with people of all races, religions, and sexual orientations. And socio-economic statuses

RESPONSIBILITIES-ADMINISTRATIVE:

  • Participate in required training's and other training required by the Street Outreach Coordinator and the Program director
  • Approach those living on the streets to give crisis information cards and explain FYI services
  • Provide counseling on the streets, youth hangouts in Macomb County and in the outreach center
  • Assemble FYI safer sex packets, food, first aid and hygiene kits
  • Provide aid and assistance to teens needing food, clothing, shelter and medical assistance
  • Offer homeless youth opportunities for shelter and transitional living through FYI advocacy, aid and counseling efforts
  • Document  case notes
  • Make referrals and transport or provide public transportation to other agencies when necessary
  • Participate in weekly Intrastaff meetings and case consultations
  • Participate in outreach presentations
  • Maintain accountability for participation in advocacy and networking processes in regard to needs assessment and service delivery
  • Liaison with police, businesses and other service agencies
  • Complete needed paper work for Street Outreach and Center activities
  • Assist in training and education of new staff.
  • Maintain current listing of outreach areas and referrals

Job Conditions and requirements

    • The work environment may subject staff to behavioral and medical problems that could by physically hazardous.
    • Staff may be asked by a manger or director to perform tasks or work schedules that have not been included in the job description
    • Staff are subject to discipline process, up to and including termination, for actions that violate the organizations' policies, procedures, state laws, or professional licensing requirements
    • Attendance and participation in mandatory meetings and training
    • Adheres to Family Youth Interventions policy on confidentiality
